Music to celebrate Her Majesty the Queens Golden Jubilee

The Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II was the international celebration held in 2002 marking the 50th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the thrones of seven countries, and was intended by the Queen to be both a commemoration of her 50 years as monarch and an opportunity for her to officially and personally thank her people for their loyalty.
Chris Palmer-Jeffery was commissioned to organise and direct, Her Majesty’s celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall on the 6th June 2002.
Some of The Queens favourite charities were chosen to benefit including Barnardo’s and I-Can. London’s Evening Standard were the Media partner for the celebration.
Trumpeters of the Coldstream Guards opened the evening with a state fanfare – musical masterpieces were performed including, Coronation March -Crown Imperial, and pieces from composers Walton, Elgar, Handel and Holst to name just a few. There was even a piece written for her by the composer Paul Hart commissioned by Chris Palmer-Jeffery, and named Shades on Greensleeves. Rock medleys were also performed, including ‘Robbie Williams Millennium’. The evening concluded with Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 by Edward Elgar .
